Overview

Nestled in the charming town of Chiesanuova in San Marino, the Biblioteca Comunale (Chiesanuova Library) serves as a vibrant hub of knowledge and community spirit. More than just a collection of books, this library embodies the town's commitment to education, culture, and collective growth.
The vision for the library took root in the early 2000s, spearheaded by a dedicated group of local educators and community leaders. They dreamed of a welcoming space where residents of all ages could access a wealth of information, spark intellectual discussions, and cultivate a passion for reading. Their unwavering advocacy and meticulous planning culminated in the municipal council’s approval of the project in 2005.
Construction commenced in 2007 on a modest plot of land generously donated by a local family. The architecture firm chosen for the project aimed to harmonize the traditional charm of Chiesanuova’s architecture with modern functionality. The result is a stunning structure that elegantly complements the town's aesthetic while offering all the conveniences of a contemporary library.
The foundation features locally sourced stones, paying homage to San Marino's rich history and craftsmanship. During the building process, eco-friendly materials were prioritized to create a sustainable and energy-efficient structure. Large windows were installed to maximize natural light, resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere for readers.
Inside, the library was thoughtfully designed to meet the community's needs. Visitors are welcomed by a spacious lobby that leads to various sections of the library. A dedicated children's area, filled with colorful furniture and engaging books, encourages the youngest members of the community to discover the joys of reading.
For students and researchers, a technology-equipped section with computers and free Wi-Fi provides access to a wealth of digital resources and databases. Cozy reading nooks and quiet study rooms are thoughtfully scattered throughout the library, offering serene spots for focused reading or study.
The library also boasts a multipurpose room that hosts workshops, lectures, and community events. This versatile space has quickly become a cultural and educational hub, featuring everything from book readings and art exhibits to skill-building classes and educational programs.
In 2010, after three years of careful construction and meticulous design, the Biblioteca Comunale opened its doors to the public. The inauguration was a festive occasion attended by local dignitaries, educators, and eager residents. This moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for Chiesanuova, solidifying the library's role as a vital part of the community.
Over the years, the library has continually refreshed its collection, adding books across a variety of genres and in multiple languages. It has become part of an interlibrary loan system, granting residents access to a broader array of books from libraries throughout San Marino. The dedicated staff, comprised of passionate librarians and volunteers, tirelessly assist visitors, organize events, and maintain the library's warm and inviting environment.
The Biblioteca Comunale transcends the notion of a traditional library; it is a community center where people gather to learn, exchange ideas, and forge connections. Its story is a testament to Chiesanuova's enduring commitment to cultivating a well-informed, cohesive, and culturally rich community. Through its welcoming doors, generations of residents have discovered knowledge, inspiration, and a profound sense of belonging.
