Overview

Nestled in the heart of Mount Lebanon, the Mzaar Ski Resort Kfardebian is a hidden gem that attracts winter sports enthusiasts from around the globe. The name "Mzaar," meaning "shrine" in Arabic, reflects the sacred shrines scattered throughout the surrounding mountains, adding a layer of cultural significance to this stunning destination.
The story of Mzaar Ski Resort began in the mid-20th century when Lebanese visionary and avid skier Pierre Khoury recognized the area's potential for winter tourism. Inspired by the breathtaking snow-capped peaks, he set out to create a ski resort that could rival European destinations. In 1959, his dream came to fruition with the official opening of Mzaar, marking the dawn of what would become Lebanon’s premier ski resort.
Initially, Mzaar featured basic facilities, including a handful of ski lifts and simple lodging options. However, the 1960s ushered in a wave of development as new ski lifts were installed and the first hotel was constructed, enhancing the visitor experience.
A significant turning point occurred in the 1970s when the Lebanese government recognized the economic potential of winter tourism and invested heavily in Mzaar Kfardebian. Infrastructure improvements, including better road access, allowed more tourists to flock to the slopes each year.
Unfortunately, the Lebanese civil war from 1975 to 1990 brought development to a standstill. Yet, the resilient spirit of the Mzaar community shone through, and in the 1990s, the resort was painstakingly rebuilt and restored once peace was restored.
By the early 2000s, Mzaar Ski Resort Kfardebian had expanded significantly, boasting over 42 hills and slopes that spanned a total of 80 kilometers. This diverse range of runs caters to everyone from beginners to seasoned experts. The resort also upgraded its lift system, featuring chairlifts, drag lifts, and gondolas capable of efficiently transporting thousands of skiers per hour.
Beyond skiing, Mzaar Kfardebian offers a plethora of activities and amenities, making it a year-round destination. Visitors can indulge in snowboarding, sledding, and après-ski options, including fine dining, spa treatments, and shopping. In the summer months, the region transforms into an outdoor paradise, perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and paragliding, showcasing the area's stunning natural beauty.
One of the unique aspects of Mzaar Kfardebian is its harmonious blend of modernity and tradition. Contemporary ski lifts and luxurious accommodations coexist alongside charming stone-built Lebanese houses and historic shrines. This synergy gives Mzaar its distinctive character, enriching the experience for visitors seeking both adventure and cultural immersion.
Looking ahead, Mzaar is committed to innovation and sustainability. Plans are underway to implement eco-friendly practices that preserve the natural beauty of the region while maintaining its reputation as a world-class ski destination. Investments in green technologies, improved waste management, and eco-friendly lodgings reflect this commitment to environmental stewardship.
Mzaar Ski Resort Kfardebian is more than just a ski destination; it embodies the vision, resilience, and passion of those who have contributed to its evolution. Its journey from humble beginnings to a top-tier global destination is truly inspiring. Each year, thousands of visitors are drawn to Mzaar, not only for its exceptional skiing conditions but also for the warm hospitality and rich history that envelops them.
